‘It’s all for L.O.V.E.’

1 Nov

Blah…Spent the whole of October 31 in bed due to chills and high fever.  I’d been planning to take Maru and the kids to MOA for the Halloween trick or treat but since there’s Santi and the fever, I opted to stay home and curl up in bed.

But Mike dragged me out of bed to watch Michael Jackson’s This Is It. Kating kati na siyang manood so we caught the last full show at SM San Lazaro.

What can I say?  It was a beautiful documentary and it showed how meticulous Michael was when it came to his craft.  He wanted everything to be done perfectly.  And he had a way of talking to people.  He’d tell them, “It’s all for love. — L.O.V.E.” right after giving them orders.  Pine-pep talk sila ni Michael, haha!

The Michael I saw in this documentary wasn’t the sluggish, propofol-induced Michael I had pictured.  Of course his body movements were slower than when he first debuted the moonwalk in the early 80’s.  But This Is It painted a really healthy, happy, and passionate Michael Jackson.

I felt sad after watching though.  He could have delivered a really great show in London, I’m so sure of that.

May kulang lang sa documentary — it didn’t show him doing the moonwalk! Que horror, that’s what I’d been wanting to see pa naman.  Buti na lang, watching This Is It was also like watching a fashion show.  I love the jackets, especially the interesting shoulder pads.

Anyway, I had a good 30 minutes of “Human Nature” and “Wanna Be Starting Someting” LSS before I decided to put on the DVD of the Katherine Heigl-starrer Knocked Up. It was a cute, predictable film. I think I slept halfway through and when I woke up it felt like I didn’t miss a thing.

Afterwards, was suddenly reminded of my favorite twins next to Charlene and Aga’s — the Jolie-Pitt twins!

So here I am in front of the computer at this ungodly hour, Googling the latest photos of the fabulous Jolie-Pitt twins, Knox and Vivienne.  And — voila! — finally found a recent photo taken in Amman, Jordan.

WTF were they doing in Jordan?

This photo was said to have been uploaded by a fan on Twitter/Twitpic and was taken last October 2 at the Licky Licious ice cream shop in Amman.  My gad! I would have fainted if I were that lucky fan.  And look at the kiddos — so adorable!

And that’s it pancit.  Off to bed I go.

Madonna and Janet on Michael Jackson

Anyway, check out the VMA’s Michael Jackson tribute.  The highlight? Janet Jackson!

This photo of Michael Jackson inside a coffin that’s been circulating on the Interwebs…

If you still didn’t get it, check the tux (?) on James Brown, the position of the hands, and the flowers.

And remember Aretha Franklin’s bilin? R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  Find out what it means no!

MJ’s Pepsi video

He sure was a pro.  Keber na sa fire, the show must go on.

This was the 1984 Pepsi ad shoot where Michael Jackson’s hair caught fire.  Many blame this incident for starting MJ’s addiction to pain killers.

Paris Jackson breaks my heart

8 Jul

Oh this is heartwrenching, especially when she broke down after saying how much she loves her dad.

It’s tragic to lose a parent at such a young age.  I was 17 when I lost my dad and since I didn’t get to know who my mom was until a few days before my Papa’s death, I remained with my uncle and his family who loved and treated me very well.

I hope whoever gets to permanently take charge of the kids would treat them as their own.  Maybe they should really be raised by MJ’s mom, Katherine.

Lisa Marie Presley on ex-hubby MJ

7 Jul

Lisa Marie Presley, Michael Jackson’s ex-wife and daughter of Elvis Presley, writes on her blog about Michael Jackson’s death.

Our relationship was not “a sham” as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a “Normal life” found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.

I wanted to “save him” I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened.

She also wrote:

As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted.

Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him.

How sad.

Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk

vs. Sarah Geronimo’s Sun Dance

5 Jul

I apologize for the Michael Jackson diarrhea but I can’t help it, he was my childhood.  If it were Madonna or Cindy Lauper who died, I would have done the same (pramis!).

Anyway, found this kewl tribute on Esquire.com, about the “43 Things We’ll Miss About Michael Jackson.”  And here are some of the best parts:

MJ crotch grab

– Parasols. He was sun sensible — you have to give him that. — Chris Jones

– That white glove. A fool would underestimate the iconic power of that white glove. In the villages of Africa, in the endless frozen horizon of the Arctic, everyone knows that white glove? Why? For reasons we can never understand, but also because there’s only one. The other white glove is missing. But the absence has turned the bereft and heartbroken glove that remains into a glittering piece of defiant joy. It’s the national flag of Michael Jackson. — John H. Richardson

– I never liked the glove, although when I saw his monstrous hand, I got it. And I admired what he’d done to cover it up. It was never clear to me if that hurt or not, but I imagine it did. Think about the beauty of that. Putting sequins on your open wounds. Think about the entire world staring at the one thing that makes you feel most ugly. — Tom Chiarella

– The messianic weirdness that is Captain EO at Epcot Center. And the existence of a star who could pull it off.

– Snapping. As if this guy hadn’t already made dancing — really dancing — cool for guys for the first time since Travolta, have you seen the “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” video? Never has a green screen been so overtaken by a man’s hands. Lightsabers, Jets, and Sharks included.

– Michael Jackson mattered. On every continent. His music played in some room, on some station, in some shit box discotheque, in a taxi, or from a window, in every city on every continent. If you hated him, and maybe I did by the end, your hate was buried in a wave of love. And if you were indifferent, then you made no difference. That’s not an argument that you should have cared, or that I wish I had cared more. What matters is what is much bigger than what each of us thinks there in our little room, from our little window, in our city on our continent. — Tom Chiarella

– When he debuted the moonwalk on the Motown Special. It’s hard to imagine in today’s YouTube world, but it was a sensation. I remember going to work the next day and everyone was talking about it. My coworker had a new invention called a VCR and actually had it on tape. We watched it over and over again. It seemed superhuman. It defined entertainment. — Helene Rubinstein

– The bass groove from “Billy Jean.” Unparalleled funk strut. Someone sample it.

– Despite his crippling debt and alien appearance, Michael Jackson had at least one more “holy shit” moment left in those sparkling socks.

– The crotch grab.

– Not a big MJ guy — never was — but after listening to the nostalgia orgies of the past twenty-four hours, I’m reminded that art can matter. That the stuff of great artists — their songs, their paintings, their books — becomes a part of our lives, and that whether you’re talking about the first time you saw the “Thriller” video or the first time you tried to moonwalk, you’re not really talking about Michael Jackson. You’re talking about yourself. The art is just a marker, allowing each of us to find our way back to some earlier, happier, more carefree version of ourselves. — Richard Dorment

– Every time someone tries to dance the Thriller routine I love them with my whole heart. It is the purest expression of faith in childhood, a testament to joy, that is art of the people, outsized, thrilling. — Tom Chiarella

– Star? Hell, he was a supernova.

This is it!

Speaker joins world in mourning loss of Michael Jackson
26 June 2009 03:15:19 PM
Writer: Gil Bugaoisan

House Speaker Prospero C. Nograles today joined the world in mourning the death of “King of Pop” Michael Jackson.

“Today, I join the world in mourning the passing of Michael Jackson who left behind a legacy that made this world a better place to live in. He was one of my Concert King idols who transcended race and color and united the world of music. His sudden death is indeed shocking and saddening,” said Nograles.

Nograles said Jackson’s legions of fans around the world will miss the pop icon and his music.

“We extend our love and sympathy to the family of Michael Jackson and join his fans and supporters in praying for his eternal repose. He will always be remembered for his contributions and legacy.”

Nograles said Filipinos had the privilege of watching the pop icon perform in Manila in 1996 which was part of Jackson’s HIStory World Tour. “Filipinos are lucky enough to have a glimpse of him during his world tour.”

Nograles said the great admiration of Filipinos on Jackson have not ceased over the years and this became evident when 1,500 inmates of the Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Cebu danced to the tune of his song “Thriller,” which became an instant hit on Youtube.

“We are grateful for the great music and exceptional performances Michael shared with us during his lifetime. These will always inspire us in the years to come,” said Nograles.

Michael Jackson dies on June 25 at the age of 50.  He left behind three children.

It’s sad, the 80’s – my growing up years – would never have been that fun without him (and Madonna and Cindy Lauper, of course).  Though he became more and more twisted over the years, it’s still sad knowing that a once great artist had died and failed to redeem himself.

My 8-year old nephew, who’s just recently been converted into an MJ fan after watching a DVD of his concerts, would be devastated when he finds out later. He’s been practicing the Moonwalk and has learned to search for old MJ videos in YouTube.  This news will definitely break his heart.
