So the government has spoken — through acting Justic Secretary Agnes Devenadera — that the Madame will not be getting her divine jewel collection. Not yet.
These jewels, part of the prized Roumeliotes collection, were confiscated by the Bureau of Customs from Greek Demetriou Roumeliotes who tried smuggling them out of the country on March 9, 1986. Two other collections — the Malacanang and Honolulu jewels — were being kept at the vaults of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Auction houses Christie’s of New York and Sotheby’s of London estimated the three collections to be worth P15 billion.
My gawd! P15-billion!
Madame’s lawyer, however, said that his client is after the Malacanang and Honolulu collections.
